History

The company was established in 1973 in Oklahoma, when it built the first all-aluminum gooseneck livestock trailer. In 1988 the company was acquired by Featherlite Manufacturing of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, relocating to Cresco, Iowa in 1993. The company created the first ever custom aluminum race car semi trailer for NASCAR racer Dale Earnhardt and team owner Richard Childress. Today Featherlite is the official trailer of NASCAR, supplying 85% of the NASCAR Sprint Cup teams. In 2006, Featherlite Trailers became a wholly owned subsidiary of Universal Trailer Corporation.[citation needed]

Featherlite manufactures a range of all-aluminum trailers, mainly using aluminum alloys. Horse trailers built for 1,2,3 and 4 horses are available in straight and slant models. Livestock trailers are available in gooseneck model, truck box, show trailers, bumper pull, semi and farm support models. Also offered are a wide selection of automobile, recreational, commercial and utility and specialty trailers. Featherlite emphasizes the customizability of its trailers, maintaining a virtual horse trailer design system on its web site.

Featherlite specializes in custom-designed and built-to-order racecar transporters and event marketing trailers. Major motorsports drivers and teams from NASCAR, IndyCar Series, NHRA, ARCA, IMSA and other sanctioning bodies own Featherlite racecar transporters, as well as display trailers and vending trailers.
